ABOUT HART THERAPY

My name is Evan Hart and welcome to Hart Counseling!

There are times and situations in life that lead each of us to pause and re-examine where we are and where we would like to be.  Life is inherently challenging and modern life especially so with it's fast paced, ever evolving, tech oriented outlook.  It has become increasingly difficult to simply...

                                                                     Be.       Here.       Now.

Worrying about the past and getting lost in a sea of rumination?  Trying to get ahead of "the next thing" by focusing on the future? Going through the day on autopilot and getting derailed by relatively minor inconveniences?  Being present and acting with purpose can feel like a formidable task with the myriad demands for our attention buzzing in our ears and off our screens.  Wanting to find a more authentic way of being in a world with almost too much to offer.  Be assured, there is a path forward.  Now is the time to learn to manage your fears and better understand your discontent.  Now is the time to consider alternate perspectives.  Now is the time for your next challenge.

You have taken the first step toward helping yourself overcome challenges that, until recently, may have seemed too daunting.  I have had great success helping clients work through depression, anxiety, and stress to understand their thought processes, better soothe emotional distress, and enact changes to reach their goals.

I am a Masters trained Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years experience working with individuals in both long term case management and one to one counseling.  I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness as the framework to examine your personal experiences and discover alternate ways of understanding yourself/issues, to problem solve, and move forward. The heart of therapy is in the relationship... an honest, forthright, authentic relationship.  I strongly believe in the power of empathic support to foster a safe space to do the work and an equal conviction in the absolute necessity of being challenged to face emotional pain and distress as complementary modes to facilitate change.  Balance in all things.

My life long passion has been to understand the human condition better and am an avid consumer of materials related to psychology, philosophy, religious studies, and cultural theory.  I hold three undergraduate degrees in English, Psychology, and Comparative Literature (Minor in Film Studies, too!) and a Masters in Clinical Counseling.  Art and culture can play a prominent role in helping articulate, explore, and ultimately understand ourselves through the creative artifacts of a multitude of mediums.  I'd love to hear what resonates with you, what you relate to, what inspires you.  Therapy does not have to be only hard work but also an exploration and celebration of what it means to be human.

Let's start that process today!  Contact me now for a free 15 minute consultation!

Acceptance & Commitment
                   Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps us Mindfully understand the thoughts and emotions present that get us stuck and offers potent strategies to process and Accept them.  In tandem, we explore what brings value and meaning to our lives as motivation to Commit ourselves to ACTION.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Learn to identify patterns of unhelpful, oftentimes biased, patterns of thought and the strategic benefit of challenging and reframing them. Understand the importance of observing changes in emotional states when our attention is focused on alternate viewpoints.  Change the way you think and you change the way you feel.

Positive Psychology

We will use Positive Psychology to help identify and reinforce the personal strengths and resources you already possess.  You will find the benefit of acknowledging the good elements in your life, enhancing gratitude, and clarifying a sense of purpose to be more proactive. Positive is knowing better what it looks like when things are going well rather than dwelling on what it looks like when they are not.

Mindfulness

What is it? Mindfulness is both a perspective and a tool to help us be truly engaged and present, to make space and respond versus react, and to nurture self compassion. Mindfulness can help us learn to bring awareness to unhelpful thought patterns and to be with strong emotions without getting caught up by them. Our brains are an attentional muscle and we can exercise them!
